Sustainability
A compilation of articles and ressources
17 April, 2024
Interest in sustainable development and its many interwoven ecological, social and economic dimensions has increased significantly in the cultural sector in recent years.
On the one hand, art and culture – in this case, music – can play a role in conveying values and knowledge to initiate change towards a socially, ecologically and economically sustainable global community. On the other hand, the sector itself needs to scrutinise its ways of working and producing with consideration for sustainability on an individual, organisational and systemic level.
At field notes, we try to take both perspectives into account: with a workshop series about perspectives on sustainability in contemporary music, we provide inspiration and practical guidance on how to meet challenges with regard to climate change. At the annual conferences, meanwhile, we focus primarily on the aesthetic dimension of engaging artistically with the topic as well as the question of what knowledge and potential for transformation lie in music and sound.
Here you can find a compilation of articles, guides and events on the topic of sustainability and contemporary music.
