Community of Practice

A Workshop Series on Sustainabilty in Contemporary Music

Grafik Community of Practice Workshopreihe

Interest in sustainable development and its many interwoven ecological, social and economic dimensions has increased significantly in the cultural sector in recent years. For this reason, inm / field notes is continuing the series of workshops on developing skills in the field of sustainability for players in the contemporary music scene together with the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation, the Goethe-Institut, Impuls neue Musik, the Musikfonds, ON Cologne, Akademie der Künste and Art Music Denmark.

In spring and autumn 2024, we will meet regularly in the Community of Practice format to discuss the topics of mobility (tours and audience movement), sustainable festival organisation and the design of project spaces, certification and accounting as well as the Climate Handprint. A community of practice is an informal network whose members are active in related fields and are united by a common concern. The network is primarily used to exchange knowledge, experience and resources and to develop joint problem-solving strategies. On the six dates of the workshop series, experts provide input on various topics, good practice examples (see Open Call) are presented and all participants are invited to discuss their own questions and experiences. The results of the meetings are documented and made available on the website of field notes berlin.

At a conference on 1 + 2 October 2024 at the Akademie der Künste Hanseatenweg, we will also take a look at the artistic questions associated with the topic: In open discussion rounds, specialist lectures and artistic contributions, the focus will be on the questions of how the climate crisis affects composing and music-making and what influence music can in turn have on social transformation. (Further information will follow shortly.)
