In the coming years, the Zafraan Ensemble will realise various cooperation projects with regional, national and international ensembles for new music. As a rule, each ensemble has created a profile for itself that is distinguished by a special instrumentation with a personal character and its own repertoire, including collaboration with selected composers. We would therefore like to establish a different form of exchange in which the ensembles inspire each other over a longer period of time, exchange ideas, learn from each other and build connections, not least with the audience. Within the framework of this idea, after projects with the ensembles Court-Circuit (Paris), L'Itinéraire (Paris), Taller Sonoro (Seville), we would now like to initiate a collaboration with the ensemble New Babylon from Bremen, which is also celebrating its 10th anniversary with this project.
The work "Cells", composed by Hanspeter Kyburz, which forms the core of the programme, symbolises the collaboration and exchange between the ensembles in a musical and almost theatrical manner. In this work, Hanspeter Kyburz deals with processes of chaotic, unstable, living, complex systems inspired by Niklas Luhmann's sociological-scientific reflections. The composer is interested here in self-organising structures, the interplay of distance and approach as a contrast to the static, constructed.
The meeting of self-organised cells and the process of reorganisation when they meet will also be the starting point for the two new works by Anna Korsun and Andreas Paparousos. The works "DIS-A. (ppearance)" and "Sometimes II" deal in their own way with the clash of different systems: political and gloomy in Ying Wang, to poetic and sarcastic in Iris ter Schiphorst. We would like to give these two great works, which were premiered in Berlin, the opportunity to be further interpreted and introduced to new audiences.
