MAM Test Kitchen #2 - Timothy McCormack

MAM presents Timothy McCormack's KILN I for contrabass clarinet, euphonium, and percussion and joins forces with McCormack on prepared bass drum for the world premiere of his “deep terrane (earth dreams itself, sweating),” which will be combined with the premiere of his vocal solo “seated at the throat” performed by Tyler Bouque.

Sep 15 | Doors 20:00 | Concert 20:30
Karl-Marx-Straße 28, Berlin

Timothy McCormack writes haptic, viscous music which makes audible the tactile, physical relationship between a performer and their instrument. Sometimes ecstatic, sometimes hermetic, his music embeds pitch within dense walls of noise to create strangely affecting sonic ecologies which alter one’s perception of time.

He has been commissioned by ensembles and organizations such as the ELISION Ensemble, Ensemblekollektiv Berlin, Klangforum Wien, the JACK Quartet, musikFabrik, Curious Chamber Players, the [Switch~ Ensemble], the Wittener Tage für neue Kammermusik, the impuls Festival, and ON – Neue Musik Köln. McCormack is the recipient of the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation Composers’ Prize (2018).

MAM.manufaktur für aktuelle musik is a liberal and internationally positioned collective that extends the idea of an ensemble through interdisciplinary engagement, bringing to life new sounds and sound concepts. In addition to the cultivation of contemporary repertoire, the musicians are committed to the upkeep and extension of alternative and/or experimental playing techniques at the nexus of performance, improvisation, and the interpretation of composed music. MAM is a place of experimentation, boundary crossing and improbable confluences.
