Strange Attractor:
[A strange attractor is a set of states in a dynamic and chaotic physical system toward which it tends to evolve, regardless of its starting conditions]
Strange Attractor is a dynamic, multi-dimensional, and sometimes chaotic, collaborative improvisation venture between five artists: Anthony Kelly, Danny McCarthy, Irene Murphy, Mick O’Shea and David Stalling. In their durational performances, they use acoustic and electronic sounds, experimenting with the materiality of different media. The collaboration began in 2010 in partnership with curator Dawn Williams of the Crawford Gallery Cork, Ireland, as a series of monthly durational performances with invited guests in a gallery based residency setting. Since its inception, Strange Attractor performances have been experienced in many venues in Ireland and elsewhere, including Sirius Arts Centre, Cobh; SOMA Waterford; RHA Gallery Dublin; Cafe OTO & Pigeon Wing Gallery, London, Mobius Artist Group, Boston; Harvestworks, New York.
The invitation of guest performers with Strange Attractor have opened new cross-disciplinary relationships between sound, visual art and music, featuring internationally renowned artists, such as David Toop, Mary Nunan, Stephen Vitiello, Rhodri Davies, Alessandro Bosetti, Steve Roden, Atoosa Pour Hosseini, Lee Patterson, EL Putnam, Jed Speare, Sven Anderson, Mike Bullock, James Coleman, John Godfrey, Derek Hoffend, and Jane Wang.
A full colour Strange Attractor book with DVD, and a PDF publication with live recordings and many contributions by the guest artists was published by Crawford Art Gallery and Farpoint Recordings.
