Klangwerkstatt Berlin - Festival for New Music

Klangwerkstatt Berlin is dedicated to contemporary music that transcends genre and generation boundaries. It presents relevant works and promising experiments, premieres and rediscoveries, it presents different musical trends and aesthetic positions for discussion, explores possibilities of new scenic forms of performance and promotes young composers and ensembles with a focus on Berlin.

A special feature is the collaboration of professional ensembles and composers, students, youth orchestras and children's ensembles. At the same eye and at the highest level, the focus is on both the ideal and practical communication of New Music to children and young people and the presentation of groundbreaking works by experienced ensembles at Klangwerkstatt Berlin.

In its decades of continuous work, the festival offers a place for entire generations of Berlin composers*, musicians* and ensembles who find here a protected space for sustainable artistic development.

The festival was founded in 1989 by composer Peter Ablinger together with students and colleagues at the Musikschule Berlin-Kreuzberg and was subsequently directed by composers Orm Finnendahl, Michael Beil and Stefan Streich.
