The interdisciplinary ensemble around computer musician, graphic designer and composer Marion Wörle and composer and guitarist Maciej Śledziecki is dedicated to innovative music theatre and machine music. The thematic focus of their work is on a critical approach to technology. Since 2013, gamut inc has been setting thematic priorities with its own productions, staging music theatre and organising concert and festival formats, such as AGGREGATE for automated pipe organs, which takes place in the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, the Auenkirche and the Chapel of Reconciliation.
Intense, scenic-musical performances negotiate technisation in a social context. gamut inc collaborates on projects with various artists and renowned ensembles such as the RIAS Chamber Choir or the LOGOS Robot Orchestra for their man-machine trilogy. In September 2023 their music theatre ZEROTH LAW premiered at the Deutsche Oper Berlin.
gamut inc has received commissions and invitations from renowned international festivals, e.g. Nationaltheater Mannheim, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Acht Brücken Festival Köln, SWR, WDR, Jauna Muzica Vilnius, Theaterhaus Stuttgart, Vancouver New Music, New Music Festival Gdansk, Numusic Festival Stavanger, Berghain, CTM, Sónar Barcelona, SONIC ACTS Amsterdam, Orgelpark Amsterdam, HKW Technosphärenklänge.
gamut inc has been awarded various scholarships, including the Reload Scholarship from the German Federal Cultural Foundation, scholarships from the Musikfonds, the Take Care Scholarship from the Fonds Darstellende Künste, the Working and Research Scholarship for New Music Berlin and the Initial Funding from the Fonds Darstellende Künste. As part of the Goethe Institute's virtual residencies, the ensemble is compiling a worldwide database of computer-controlled organs. In 2022, they were scholarship holders at Villa Kamogawa Kyoto (Goethe Institute) and spent three months exploring the world of organs in Japan. Their album »SUM TO INFINITY« was released on MORPHINE Records in 2023 with new works for gamut inc's music machines and synthesisers. In 2024 they explore the organ world in eastern Canada as global fellows.
