Berlin Westhafen – Umschlagplatz Klang

hafenbecken I & II

Now that Berlin's other harbours have long been put to other uses, the Westhafen site is just waiting to be discovered by an audience. Experience new sounds in Berlin's Westhafen!

For the composition "Berlin Westhafen - Umschlagplatz Klang" by Daniel Ott, the old and new of the harbour space becomes a tangible sound space and the audience an active part of the whole. In various spatial arrangements, 68 musicians from seven renowned ensembles from Berlin musically sound out the two harbour basins, explore distances and come into contact with architecture, machines and water. In three parts, the visitors experience the harbour space as a culturally lively place. Soundscapes emerge, which the audience wanders through freely until they gather at the end for the big tutti.

For the first time, the ensembles Ensemble KNM Berlin, Solistenensemble Kaleidoskop, Ensemble LUX:NM, ensemble mosaik, ZAFRAAN Ensemble, Ensemble Adapter, Ensemble Apparat and guests will join forces for a site-specific composition on this scale, combining artistic forces that will provide a new impulse not only for Berlin's independent scene but also for Berlin's urban space.
