UpToThree 2022 - andernorts

UP TO THREE is a festival format in which the musicians of ensemble mosaik present themselves in small formations: a maximum of three performers including guests perform simultaneously on the stage of the Acker Stadt Palast in Berlin Mitte.

Over two days, the mini-festival will present selected compositions as well as studies and experiments from the workshops of the participating musicians and composers. In small teams, topics from current projects in ensemble work are focused on and new ideas and experiments are explored in joint work phases over longer periods of time. Compositions and concepts emerge from this research work to be presented and discussed publicly.

In 2022, ensemble mosaik will celebrate its 25th anniversary. Under the title andernorts (elsewhere), the musicians are currently working on a link between outdoor space, nature and the concert hall; themes of sustainability and globalization are being artistically explored. In addition, studies on planned ensemble projects are being developed or project ideas of the musicians are being tested.

For UP TO THREE - andernorts, ensemble mosaik has commissioned the composers Wang Lu, Joshua Mastel and Haukur Þór Harðarson with new contributions to the anniversary.

Also programmed are recent compositions by Tamon Yashima, Orm Finnendahl and Antje Vowinckel, the trio "beats" by Juliana Hodkinson from our installative project series "realities, places and displacements of places" and a study of the site-specific composition "bayt al-wastani (the warm room)" by Irene Galindo Quero.

We take up the topic of cultural localization with the composers Anothai Nithibon and Jonas Baes.

Mathis Mayr presents his microtonal composition "Der glühende Weg des unsichtbaren Schattens" (The glowing path of the invisible shadow) and Chatschatur Kanajan develops the audiovisual project "gelbblau" (yellow-blue) with the artist Thomas Henriksson.

In the context of planned projects of ensemble mosaik 2022/23, preparatory studies will be developed with composers Clemens Gadenstätter and Petros Ovsepyan.
