The Lucerne Festival Contemporary Orchestra is guaranteed to be a unique experience. In this temporary melting pot, outstanding young instrumentalists from all over the world meet the best conductors and, at the same time, new compositions and milestones of the avant-garde. The orchestra’s formation varies each festival year – but what you can count on is the extraordinary quality and charisma of this ever-changing orchestra, which continues to leave its mark on the music world. At the Musikfest Berlin, Ilan Volkov will conduct the orchestra. Just as pianist Nicolas Hodges and percussion soloists Dirk Rothbrust and Christian Dierstein, he is one of the most renowned and passionate interpreters of the contemporary repertoire.
With the Lucerne Festival Orchestra and Nicolas Hodges, the Israeli conductor will premiere the Piano Concerto by Rebecca Saunders. The Berlin-based British composer is known for her power of imagination and a particularly intense and productive collaboration with those who perform her works. She also breaks new tonal ground with her celebrated concerto for both solo percussionists and orchestra. Juxtaposing her works with the music of Anton Webern – a classic among modern composers – promises exciting changes of perspective.
