With "nets-loops-cells" the ensemble LUX:NM ventures into a net of possibilities on September 1st with compositions by Cathy Milliken, Karen Power, Charlotte Seither, Birgitta Flick and Martin Lorenz in the Kesselhaus of the Kulturbrauerei.
As a new music ensemble, we find ourselves in a constant web of possibilities. This can be liberating and constricting at the same time. At times it feels like loops that connect everything to everything else. We alternately feel like we are in the midst of a proliferating dynamic in it, but at other times we feel like we are caught in a spider's web.
Our web is spun in collaboration with the composers* and thrown onto the stage as a concert with instruments, video, quadraphonic spatial sound, and electrified objects.
Composer Cathy Milliken's work explores the theme of collaborative composing. Thus, her new work "OPERA OF OBJECTS/EDITION II" will also be created in a collaborative process. It is based on the playing concept "Opera of Objects" by Milliken, Tomlinson and Griswold. Instruments and objects are played. It is a piece about materiality and its changes, but also about human actions and decisions. Like our future." (Cathy Milliken)
Karen Power's new work, "bog songs," ventures into the world of bog animals. Personalized motorized objects that control each instrument and are operated by each musician weave themselves into the quadraphonic spatial feed.
A selection of style quotations, excerpts of existing own compositions, static sound layering or spontaneous improvisations are treated as axioms by Martin Lorenz in his work for saxophone, trombone, accordion piano and synthesizer. He places these axioms in a network full of relationships in the compositional process.
The score of Charlotte Seither composition "Echoes of O's" has been translated into a video by the ensemble LUX:NM together with the artist Florian Japp and Birgitta Flick's new work is inspired by two basic themes: on the one hand growing and unfolding and on the other hand the theme of touching.
