Today, gentrification processes can be observed globally in larger cities and especially in the metropolitan regions of many countries. Broad sections of the population are affected by the phenomenon - as those displaced, those triggering displacement or those displacing. The changes that accompany these processes are directly reflected in the acoustic-visual cityscape. Based on the long-established residents of certain neighbourhoods, on artists who are both displaced and cause to these processes, and on the sound environment of specific places, the project URBAN MORPHOLOGIES by ensemble mosaik Berlin, the Swiss composer Katharina Rosenberger and the German video artist Betina Kuntzsch examines the state of these developments in Berlin, L.A., and Basel.
