Totes Holz

audiovisuelle Installation von Lena Mahler und Christina Ertl-Shirley

"Dead wood" (Totes Holz) is alive. Sounds. Remembers. Inhabited. The artists trace the hidden and revealed textures of dead wood. Draw and record. Intervene. The investigations become scores, audiovisual sculpture, sound portraits. The artistic exchange is documented and accompanied by a blog:
Vernissage on May 29 with new compositions by Andrea Ermke and Anaïs Tuerlinckx.
The exhibition is open from 30 May - until 12 June daily from 15:00 - 19:00.
Artistic exchange starting in January 2021 here: and instagram @_ces_ces_ces
About the artists:
Lena Mahler
My examination is based on three foundations: introspection, the text, and the world. Sound serves as a central medium for the indifferent interferences in the social interspace. I read the sound as a "bringing to speech" of the innermost. It captures the texture, mirrors the material world, and can sometimes fracture it. I find, or create, these fractures. Thus speechlessness can be experienced. And perhaps in some places overcome. Here now my view lies on the dead wood. On the basis of photographic, cinematic and acoustic documentation, I process field recordings of very different kinds in collages, installations and on the radio.
Christina Ertl-Shirley
Christina Ertl-Shirley creates audio*visual narratives in the form of sound installations, radio plays, drawings, radio features, compositions and sound sculptures. She sees her works as transmedia explorations in which the subject determines the material. She is particularly concerned with the interweaving of nature and art, immersing herself in microcosms such as the flora and fauna of the „Lieberose Desert“ in Brandenburg, the world of the animal "paper nautilus" or the environment of Tartigrades in mosses. The starting point for her works is the travel of these niches through scientific, historical and subjective material. She draws on the suggestive possibilities of these elements and comments on them through her own acoustic, visual and haptic investigations, realizing artistic narratives from them.
