Oliver Coates, Lino Capra Vaccina

Vaccina is a legendary cult composer and percussionist which created a unique version of American minimalism. He is the founder member of the early 1970s avant garde ensembles Aktuala and Telaio Magnetico, and was also a key member of Franco Battiato’s band. With gongs, Tuvan throat singing, and stripped down analogue electronica he composed the revolutionary and meditative album Antico Adagio somewhere deep in the 70ties. He disappeared after this release in the shadows of the music history. Luckily in 2016 Die Schachtel re-released the album, and he is performing live again. A rare chance to see him on stage.

One of the most in-demand experimental artists of the moment, cellist and producer Oliver Coates pushes sonic waves for everyone from Mica Levi to Radiohead and beyond. His musical aesthetic lies twitching somewhere between the concert hall and the club, but not as an exercise in nostalgia. Instead, his bleeps lie towards the rawer end of the electronic rave spectrum where he rubs fragmented, smoky rhythms into the bow of his cello with unreal results. Among others, he has performed with Terry Riley, Steve Reich, Jonny Greenwood, Mica Levi and Actress, and is currently working with Laurie Spiegel and John Luther Adams.
