Two long-standing partnerships of the highest order—Han Bennink & Tobias Delius and James Banner & Declan Forde—come together as a quartet for two special nights at KM28.
Drummer and multi-instrumentalist HAN BENNINK began his career as a hard swinger who accompanied touring musicians such as Sonny Rollins, Ben Webster, Wes Montgomery, Johnny Griffin, Eric Dolphy and Dexter Gordon. He is heard with Gordon on Live at Amsterdam Paradiso" (Affinity 1969) and with Dolphy on Last Date (PolyGram 1964). At the same time, Bennink participated in the creation of a European improvised music that began to evolve a new identity, apart from its jazz roots. With fellow Dutch pioneers pianist Misha Mengelberg and saxophonist Willem Breuker, he founded the musicians collective Instant Composers Pool in 1967.
TOBIAS DELIUS is a tenor saxophonist and clarinetist whose many projects include Booklet (with Joe Williamson and Steve Heather), Christian Lillinger's Grund, Mrs. Conception (with Axel Dörner, Jan Roder, and Steve Heather), the ICP Orchestra, and Tobias Delius 4tet (with Tristan Honsinger, Joe Williamson, and Han Bennink).
JAMES BANNER & DECLAN FORDE are a prolific duo that has collaborated since 2015 with Tobias Delius, Vilde & Inga, John Hollenbeck, Max Andrzejewski, João Lopes Pereira, Eric Vaughn, and many more. They also perform as part of other acts including the award-winning Rachel Sermanni and James Banner’s USINE.
