APPARAT's emphasis is on broadening the horizons of brass instruments in the context of contemporary music and sound art. Apparat has tried out a wide variety of styles and approaches in the context of world premieres of solo and ensemble works. In recent years, the ensemble has presented programs at the rainy days festival of the Philharmonie Luxemburg, at the Berlin Academy of the Arts, and at the Klangwerkstatt Berlin festival. Apparat has also performed at many of Berlin's major contemporary music festivals, including Musikfest, MärzMusik, and Ultrasound.

BRAD HENKEL is a trumpeter and composer. With a primary focus on improvisation, using a broad color palette of pitched and unpitched sounds, he creates and participates in music which is rooted in the jazz, contemporary classical, and Echtzeitmusik traditions. His debut solo album Croon was released on Neither/Nor Records in March 2023. Other projects include Recoil (with Dustin Carlson and Sam Hall), Warble (with Miako Klein), and Spoiler (with Liz Kosack, Julia Reidy and Sam Hall).
