Ensemble Compas: Double View

Klangwerkstatt Berlin 2022

The ancient Roman representations of the patron god Janus always show a head with two faces looking in opposite directions. He symbolizes beginning and end, future and past, war and peace. It is about duality and dichotomy par excellence. Janus will be the name of the new piece Ying Wang is composing for Ensemble Compas, commissioned by Klangwerkstatt Berlin. The program juxtaposes this composition by the Berlin-based composer with a piece by her father, the well-known Chinese composer Xilin Wang.

Der Gott Janus hat einen Kopf mit zwei Gesichtern. Sie blicken in entgegengesetzte Richtungen. Es geht um Dualität und Zwiespältigkeit. Dem Stück „Janus“ von Ying Wang wird eine Komposition ihres Vaters Xilin Wang gegenübergestellt.
