BERLIN GLOBAL meets Gaye Su Akyol

As part of the Berlin Kultursommerfestival and the new Open Space exhibition “30 kg”, BERLIN GLOBAL invites you to an open-air concert by genre-defying singer and activist Gaye Su Akyol. Her transcultural musical influences range from Turkish folk and classical music to psychedelic, grunge, punk, funk and surf rock. A defiant advocate for justice, equality and solidarity, Akyol gets her audience up and moving.

Gaye Su Akyol grew up in cosmopolitan Istanbul, listening to Anatolian music icon Selda Bağcan and Kurt Cobain in equal measure. With the release of her first international album “Hologram Ĭmparatorluğu” (2016), Gaye Su Akyol established herself as one of Turkey’s most compelling young voices. Her work as a singer-songwriter, producer and audio/visual conceptual artist simultaneously navigates the storied past, the hyper-connected present and the unscripted future.
