Pitsiokos–Stewart–Williams–Nazary

Nowhere Street presents:

CLCJ Quartet
Chris Pitsiokos – alto saxophone
Chris Williams – trumpet
Luke Stewart – double bass
Jason Nazary – drums

CHRIS PITSIOKOS is widely associated with his quartet CP Unit (with Sam Lisabeth, Henry Fraser, and Jason Nazary) but has also issued a string of solo recordings for alto and baritone saxophones, including Speak in Tongues (Relative Pitch, 2020). Other recent releases include Live in Paris (with Otomo Yoshihide) and the CP Unit's One Foot On the Ground Smoking Mirror Shakedown. (www.chrispitsiokos.com)

CHRIS WILLIAMS is an interdisciplinary artist and educator whose work explores the dyad of ancestral trauma and power existing in all Black Americans. Investigating this has led to the creation of the modular piece I Ain’t Got No Spare (2019), which interweaves performance, homemade electronics, sound and projection. Recent projects include mehahn, a theatrical meditation on grief and hereditary dissonance; Sans Soleil, a duo with Patrick Shiroishi (Astral Spirits 2021); and On The Platform, a collaboration with percussionist Booker Stardrum and animator Miranda Javid. LUKE STEWART is a bass player whose regular ensembles include Irreversible Entanglements (with Camae Ayewa, Aquiles Navarro & Tcheser Holmes), Heroes are Gang Leaders, and experimental rock duo Blacks’ Myths (with Warren Crudup, III). As a solo artist, he has been compiling a series of improvisational sound structures for upright bass and amplifier, utilizing the resonant qualities of the instrument to explore real-time harmonic and melodic possibilities. JASON NAZARY is a drummer and composer fascinated by the intersection of acoustic and electronic music. He's released two records under his solo project, So Ghost, that explore the use of acoustic drums as trigger and control sources for electronic instruments in the context of raw, minimalist composition and improvisation. He is a co-leader of Clebs (with Emilie Weibel), Anteloper (with Jaimie Branch), Bear In Heaven (with Jon Philpot and Adam Wills), and Little Women (with Travis Laplante, Darius Jones: and Andrew Smiley).
