The question of a possible coexistence of man and machine is at the centre of the robot trilogy of the retro-futuristic ensemble gamut inc. After OVER THE EDGE CLUB and ROSSUM'S UNIVERSAL ROBOTS, with the third part ZEROTH LAW they transform the Tischlerei of the Deutsche Oper into a hybrid soundscape - together with the RIAS Kammerchor and the music machines of the legendary robot orchestra founded by Godfried-Willem Raes at the Stichting Logos in Ghent.
Inspired by Isaak Asimov's "The Avoidable Conflict", ZEROTH LAW creates a ritual resonance space around the thematic complex of technology, nature and magic. In the novella, the author deals with a form of society that has become absolutely dependent on machines. In the production, music, text, musical robots, choir and dancers, video projections and light choreography combine to create a surreal landscape. In his libretto, Frank Witzel takes up the philosophical questions of the science fiction original.
