Questions of tonality and tuning are central to all musical traditions. How instruments are tuned determines what music can be played and which instruments can play together at all. The dogma of tuning defines a tonal space that belongs to the tradition and characterizes what lies outside of it.
In the fourth Encounter of its trans-traditional music laboratory, Berlin based Trickster Orchestra and its guests focus on the microtonal range. What potentials and possibilities lie therein for trans-traditional practices, the aim of which is a music that values and recognizes different traditions and at the same time searches for a “third” that is not its own and not foreign.
Trickster Orchestra's trans-traditional music laboratory is a public, experimental and future-oriented work process that the audience is invited to experience live from the very beginning. Together with changing guests, the Trickster Orchestra embarks on an artistic research journey with an uncertain destination and presents the latest findings and musical experiments relating to trans-traditional contemporary music practice in workshop concerts.
