MOHIRON

In this concert, the MOHIRON ensemble juxtaposes traditional and contemporary Tajik melodies with works by international composers such as Antonio Vivaldi and Zequinha de Abreu, all performed on traditional instruments from Tajikistan. This is Central Asian cultural heritage in a dynamic dialogue with contemporary forms of expression; the concert at FUTURE NOW will also feature original compositions by ensemble members Idibek Toshev and Jovidon Hasanov.


The ensemble specialises in traditional Tajik national instruments: the programme features instruments such as the bowl-necked lutes rubab and dumra, the flute-like sounds of the ney, and the plucked lute gijak. The ensemble’s ambition is reflected in its name – “Mohiron” means “to play with excellence and talent”.
