The Copula Project is a series of ongoing and newly conceived editions that continuously discuss the ancient Egyptian understanding of the temporal dimension and analyse different aspects of it.
Time is a dimension that seems natural to all of us, yet so complex. The familiar order of the triad of time, represented by feeling past, present and future, seems universally valid. But in ancient Egypt there was a far different conception of temporal order, divided into a two-dimensional understanding of cyclical and linear processes - Neheh and Djet.
Against this backdrop, the multisensory installation Copula offers an examination of the ancient Egyptian understanding of time and invites one to experience an abstraction of this temporal perspective.
The focus of the edition "Infinite Transitions“ is on the detailed perception and experience of temporal transitions and transformations. How can the transition between two times, moments, feelings or perceptions be translated? How can this transition be made perceptible using sound, language, or even haptics?
In a three-day workshop, artists Cecilia Pez and Marie Akoury will explore various media such as textiles, sound, language, singing, and movement investigating them as methods of translation. On the third day of the workshop, they will present their research to the public and invite the audience to an immersive and multisensory performance that explores the moment of being in-between two sensations.
