Timothy Archambault – Chìsake (Ideologic Organ, LP/digital)

The loss of Peter »Pita« Rehberg weighs heavily. The fact that his seminal institution Editions Mego and the sub-label Ideologic Organ run by Stephen O'Malley actually still have releases slated for a release seems almost ghostly. And what if one day none will follow anymore? Until then, every new project should be welcomed with open arms and ears. In the case of Timothy Archambault's album »Chìsake« this should come very easily. The 24 pieces for solo flute, recorded in Beijing in 2014, are interpretations of chants that play a central role in the rituals of the North American anishinaabe ethnic group. Archambault documents this trance-inducing tradition in an impressive way.
