Konstrukt feat. Thurston Moore – Turkish Belly (Karlrecords, LP/digital)

Is this the belated answer to »Ege Bamyasi?« At least the cover of »Turkish Belly« makes you think of either that or Andy Warhol's soup cans. The Istanbul collective’s ten-minute improvisation with Thurston Moore at the beginning of this brilliant album however is, if only due to the stunning vocal performance, is more reminiscent of the highly explosive performances of Fushitsusha and contemporary psych-rock bands like Dope Purple than of the—comparatively—almost conventional grooves of CAN. Above all, however, it proves the very singular qualities of these perfectly in tune real-time music greats to bring feverish rock and free-form noise into one coherent flow. »Turkish Belly« forms a class of its own.
