Amirtha Kidambi & Matteo Liberatore – Neutral Love (Astral Editions, MC/digital)

Amirtha Kidambi remains eager to collaborate. Her recent releases with the Elder Ones and Lea Bertucci are followed by »Neutral Love« a new album with guitarist Matteo Liberatore. The New York-based improv guitarist released his solo album titled, well, »Solos« three years ago and has collaborated with Catherine Sikora, Elliott Sharp and Mark Kelley, among others. On »Neutral Love,« Kidambi and Liberatore enter into a meditative dialogue that draws its compositional inspiration from Morton Feldman and Pauline Oliveros. The four pieces, which are between seven and eight and a half minutes long, are of a corresponding slowness, unfold in constant interaction and open up possibilities for deep listening through breadth rather than depth: instead of climatic moments, this album is marked by discreet tension that unfolds along the way.
