Lea Bertucci – A Visible Length of Light (Cibachrome Editions, LP/CD/digital)

Last year, Lea Bertucci tu(r)ned heads with a second joint album with the vocalst Amirtha Kidambi and two longform compositions collected on the LP »Acoustic Shadows«. »A Visible Length of Light« has been released on her label Cibachrome Editions and is probably the alto saxophonist and bass clarinettist’s most ambitious and richest album. The ten pieces may be unusually short on average by the multi-media artist's standards, but they make up for it with sonic density and musical adventurousness. Field recordings from Brazil and North America, flute improvisations, tape manipulations and organ sounds come together and are interwoven into a fascinating narrative. »A Visible Length of Light« was created in the first year of the pandemic between the artist's New York home and a residency in Omaha in the state of Nebraska, but between sounds it speaks of the vastness of a world that Bertucci explores anew with graciously small steps.
