Beatriz Ferreyra / Natasha Barrett – Souvenirs Cachés / Innermost (Persistence of Sound, LP/digital)

Beatriz Ferreyra and Natasha Barrett belong to different generations and have different musical backgrounds.

Yet there’s more that unites the Paris-based Argentinean and the Norway-based Brit that divides them. Both use sound to explore space.

Ferreyra's »Souvenirs Cachés« from their joint split release on Persistance of Sound was commissioned for the Semibreve Festival in Portugal and is very much in the tradition of the GRM methods that the composer once helped to develop. »Murmeln« was created in 2003 as a radio piece for the Sonic Arts Lounge as a »danceable electro-acoustic composition.« Sounds unusual? It does, in the very best sense of the word.

Meanwhile, on »Innermost« Barrett processes recordings of communal celebrations outdoors that were made before the pandemic – and therefore sound all the more striking in the current situation.
