We would like to thank all participants for their valuable contributions in the symposium "contemporary music in global contexts" on the 26th and 27th of September 2019 at the Akademie der Künste and wish to continue the vivid exchange in the future.

The participants decided in a self-organised process to work on the following topics:

* Reports of the working groups
#1: New audiences & what is global with the local?
#2: Independent music ensembles
#3: How can we deal with the issue of sustainability in contemporary music?
#4: Different roots for new made music & different memory systems
#5: Colonialism: Is western contemporary music open to other cultures? Contemporary music outside of the “west”
#6: Studying and contemporary music / founding an ensemble
#7: Postcolonial curating, politics of care, intercultural dangers and chances

The working groups developed the following action plans:

  • Project A: Turbulenzen – Festival für interkulturelle Musik
  • Project B: Create a similar symposium in Croatia for contemporary music, arts figures and institution
  • Project C: New network for new music (Non-Colonialist)
  • Project D: Meet on a regular basis and continue this exchange
  • Project E: Curate together
  • Project F: Establish these discussions in established new music festivals
  • Project G: Think Tank on how to change or open boards, juries, conservatories, and new music associations
  • Project H: Sustainability in contemporary music

Let us know if you are interested in getting in touch with one or more of these groups at delegation [at] inm-berlin.de.

We hope to meet you again soon and latest next year for the second edition of the symposium. It will be part of the festival “Memories in Music” at the Akademie der Künste 23.-26.9.2020.
