RE:SONANCE

Resonance Lab is the new one-off event branched off Automaton.lab and its sonic research into the architectural specificity of the water reservoir in Prenzlauer Berg.
Taking place in Großer Wasserspeicher on March 3rd and 4th in two curated evenings of deep embodied sound experience, Resonance Lab invites artists and performers to explore the architectural acoustics of the reservoir’s maze. Amplifying and playing with its resonances and echoes with a site-specific speaker installation, Resonance Lab aims to turn the space into an instrument itself, musicked by human sound-making practices deploying specifically voice and tape techniques.
The performance opens on Friday, March 3rd, with the version “I am sitting in a room” performed by Anton Filatov and Nikita Simakov. A dedication to minimalist composer Alvin Lucier, will capture and attune to the sonic profile of the venue. Recorded speech, recycled by means of cascaded playback and re-recording, reinforcing the resonant frequencies of the room, while the intelligibility of the recorded speech is gradually eliminated.
Voice, sound and performance artist Alexey Kokhanov employs his professional training as opera singer at the interface between contemporary music and experimental performance. With improvisational methodologies and extended vocal techniques, he explores the different aspects of voice — physiological, psychological, aesthetic, and political.
On Saturday, March 4rd, visitors will be welcomed by curator of Staalplaat's cassette label Staaltape, writer and dictaphone experimentalist Rinus Van Alebeek. Van Alebeek uses environmental recordings on tape to narrate stories through sound poems that alternate evocative and abrasive responses to the performative space.
Follows an exciting improvisation duo, where Audrey Chen’s voice and analogue electronics meets the timbres and biorhythmic patterns of Felicity Mangan’s field recordings to create a special version of narrative and non-linear storytelling.
The event is curated by Anton Filatov, Giada Dalla Bontà, Sid Talukdar and organised by Anton Filatov and Fanny Dreyer from automaton.lab
